1920s Opera Coat with Embroidered Dragon Sleeves

Sold Out

Product Details

This listing is for one coat. Textile of the body is a very soft and substantial silk satin with silk chiffon cuffs, hem, and collar and a silk crepe lining. Coat has a wrap style closure at front with v neck, wide sleeves, and classic 1920s opera coat silhouette. The magnificent dragon embroidery is done on a very stable cotton band at each sleeve. Each sleeve has two full embroidered dragons. The cuffs, collar, and hemline are filled with a rolled batting to give an amazing three dimensional shape. Teal silk on collar, hem, and cuffs is shattering with numerous darker discolorations throughout. The body of the coat is black silk, most has faded to a very dark brown. There are numerous lighter faded spots throughout. Interior silk lining matches the collar and cuffs and is beginning to separate and shatter behind the neck and shoulders. There is also a small repair at the hemline. This piece is not wearable due to the shattering, but would make a fabulous piece for study, restoration, or display.
