1980s Galanos Avant Garde Formal Black Gown
$1,950.00
Product Details
A unique formal dress by none other than James Galanos. Head to toe black silk for the most gothic of occasions. Textile is unmarked, blouse feels like silk, skirt is likely silk taffeta, hip band is wool. Wide sash belt matches the ribbon band below the wool hips. All parts are black. This is a bold, avant garde formal gown, the style is quite unique, not for the faint of heart! The bodice is loose and made to fit like a blouse. Large shoulder pads. Long sleeves gather with a pleat at the wrist, cuffs unzip. Collar is gathered in the front and buttons behind the neck. The back of the bodice is open with a single hook and eye to keep it in place. The waist is fitted with sculpted hips, the bottom of the wool hip band has a ribbon detail. The waist and hips hold the weight of the skirt, keeping the bodice loose and blousey. The skirt is full circle and has two layers for volume. The belt is a separate piece, 5.75" wide and about eight feet long, the ends are left unfinished and have a fringe look. Impeccable design and tailoring, a very high quality piece for anyone who wants to make an impression!
